Welcome to our blog as Gordons. As Ben puts it, "Kaitlin, now that you are a Gordon, you are a winner. You have to act like one."

Blairsville, Georgia
2 weeks ago Ben and I went on a weekend get a way to my childhood vacation spot: my grandparents cabin in northern georgia. Ben and I have been on many trips together. We have been to Virginia when I went to school, Jamaica for our honeymoon, St. Augustine and Orlando for weekend trips, but I have to say for me (and I cannot speak for Ben) this was our favorite! We spent about 48 hours at that cabin and in that time we got a lot accomplished! We went to our annual breakfast location called the Griddle, we went fishing for bluegill, carps and catfish, we swam in the beautiful lake with Soviet, we went shooting bb guns and I even made a pie! It felt like our family vacations all over again. The last time we were there was about 5 years ago. I was about 17 and now I am back with my husband and my dog. It was such a special time for us.

Anni-Birth-Ary!
Last Monday and Tuesday was our 1 year anniversary and my birthday, respectively. It is hard to believe it has been an entire year. What a whirlwind! Now, sitting in bed, blogging, with my husband to the left (who is a Cop) and our 4 month old siberian husky in the next room, I see how much God has blessed us! Our lives are just amazing and I cannot wait to see what God has for our future.
Introducing Soviet James Gordon
May 29, 2011, we got ourselves a little bundle of sunshine from the Jacksonville Avenues mall: a three month male siberian husky. This has been my dream dog for so long and I can't believe I have one now. I take him on walks often and so many people stop me and the one comment they have is "he is so pretty!" He gets his middle name from the brother, Evan, because the two of them have that same very stubborn personality. It just seemed to fit. He is seriously just awesome to have around our apartment. He is super smart (very different than my childhood pet, a beagle) and within a week was leash trained and potty trained.
After having Soviet for 3 weeks, I absolutely suggest for newlyweds to get a dog. He brings a new level of our fun to our lives. It gets us outdoors...going for walks...going to the park....or the doggie beach. It gives us something to do other than watching the tube.
It also gives you a different dynamic when you and your husband have your first opportunity to dually train an animal. It can be very interesting to say the least. Me and Ben have the same ideas when training though so its nice. He is crate trained, he is not allowed in certain rooms in the apartment, we will not allow him to eat food until he is told, etc. Keep updated on The Gordons: As Parents. You won't want to miss it!

It's been 5 months.
Also, as of April 30, 2011 Ben is done with training! However, he is still in his probationary period. He has been loving his job and is doing really well in it. He finally got his tazer, so hence forth his belt is complete and weighing about 20 pounds. I'm so proud of all of his accomplishments. Not to say that I didn't have faith that he could actually become a police officer, but I didn't know it would actually happen! We have truly been blessed.
A month before we moved into our apartment, Ben sold his 85 honda rebel and bought an 07 suzuki motorcycle. We have so much fun cruising the DB on the bike! Between that and his cop car we save a lot of money on gas which you can only imagine is a huge blessing in this economy.
I'm not very good at this blogging thing. Will try to update more often and hopefully I'll have something good to say!

Five First Days.
As of two weeks ago, Wednesday, January 19, 2011 Ben has started his Field Training Officer phase. The hardest and most challenging phase of his training. It is an interesting career Ben has chosen. I was thinking the other day, what a journey it has been! Looking back to the beginning, Ben started with the police academy in August of 2008. He had six months of training at Daytona State College for his first steps to becoming a police officer. In January of 2009, he interviewed with Volusia County Sheriffs Office. However, he did not get the job. Through the year 2009 he had various other interviews such as Ormond Beach, Flagler County and some others that I cannot remember at the moment. He was always in the top of his class, but never quite made it. Fortunately for us persistence pays off. One week after we came back from our honeymoon, Ben interviewed for Volusia County for the second time, and we got the call that he had made it!
He started training for Volusia County on July 19. 2011: another three months of training. On October 27, me, my parents, and my in-laws got to watch Ben graduate with an expert marksmenship award! After this phase of training, he was either going to be sent to FTO right away or to the courthouse to work for three months. Ben was sent to the courthouse, which meant we got our holidays together! Finally on January 18, Ben had his last day at the courts and went on to his first day on the streets. The FTO road phase will last at least, 2 months and at most, 3 months. This is the most challenging part by far, but we are thankful that it is here. As I was saying in the beginning of this, before I got started, and which happens to be the title of this blog, how funny it is that Ben has had so many first days of work. For me, starting a new job is the most frightening thing there is. I started my job back in March of 2010, and for me, it only got better since my first day. For Ben, on the other hand, He starts so many new things its hard to ever get comfortable. He asked one of his coworkers, do you ever get comfortable with the job? And she stated, "You get comfortable with being uncomfortable all the time." That's interesting.
